Internet domain registrar-registry service provider, Qinetics Solutions was appointed  authorised distributor and managed services partner of Singapore-based BoxSentry’s RealMail SPAM detection e-mail protection solutions in Kuala Lumpur on 18 December, 2008.

Qinetics will offer RealMail either as an appliance or a managed service through our network of partners and resellers in Malaysia around the region and are looking to expand our business aggresively,” said Qinetics chief executive officer, TK Tan.

RealMail Managed Services addresses the increasing demand among organisations for software as a service (SaaS) hosted applications for those which want to save on the total-cost-of ownership of running their own e-mail solutions in-house.

Either way, RealMail is based on dedicated, Linux-based PC-base appliances, the RSX500, RSX1000 and RSX2000 for small businesses all the way up to enterprises with 2,000 staff and up to 2 million e-mail transactions per day.

Unlike most conventional SPAM filters which are known to mistakenly identify 50 out of every 10,000 legitimate e-mail messages as SPAM and to deleted them and according to Ferris Research, false positives have cost businesses in the United States over US$3.5 billion per year in lost business opportunities.

“Such false-positives would even be higher for e-mail messages in non-English languages, since most other US-based e-mail security solutions are exclusively based on English, which 97% of the world’s  people don’t speak,” said BoxSentry chief executive officer, Manish Goel.

RealMail almost eliminates false-positives by using a series of heuristic, self-learning algorithms with tols such as authentication, reputation, sender ID and DKIM (an Open PKI authentication).

It typically takes up to 30 days to fully learn who an organisation regularly corresponds with and combines it with authentication technology to determine whether or not an e-mail messages actually is SPAM and where it’s in doubt it refers to the recipient for verification.

“It’s based on the philosophy that it’s better to let 10 guilty persons go, rather than to sentence and innocent person,” said Manish.

RealMail  also protects e-mails in 16 different languages, including Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese and others.

BoxSentry works with CommTouch for its SPAM detection technology based on real-time pattern detection and it compares each pattern against its database and only flags it as SPAM if there are several occurrences of the same pattern. It also uses the DKIM (Open PKI) authentication and Sender Policy Framework (SPK) which validates a sender’s domain against a visible sender’s domain name. Its other technology partners include Sophos and Image Analyzer.

RealMail is targeted at enterprises, government and service providers and its users in Malaysia include Petronas, the Berjaya Group, SITA Envoronmental Solutions and others.

It’s won several awards, including the Red Herring Asia 100, ZD Net TopTech Company 2008-2009, the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) and others.
